The ACCME and eight other CME leadership organizations sent this letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services regarding a proposed rule related to the Physician Payments Sunshine Act (PPSA). The letter describes the role of the Standards for Commercial SupportSM: Standards to Ensure the Independence of CME Activities in safeguarding CME from commercial influence. The signatories recommend that the CMS clarify and modify the proposed rule, so that faculty honoraria for accredited/certified CME activities and commercial support would be excluded from mandatory reporting requirements. In addition to the ACCME, the letter was signed by the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Association, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, the Federation of State Medical Boards, and the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education.
