The ACCME’s recent audit of activities entered into PARS that count for the ABIM Medical Knowledge Assessment Recognition Program has demonstrated that CME providers are successfully fulfilling ABIM Maintenance of Certification requirements. In response, ABIM and ACCME have decided to reduce the number of audits conducted annually. ABIM outlines this revised audit strategy in a newly published Program Guide. In addition to the modified audit strategy, the updated Program Guide includes examples of approaches providers can use to evaluate the impact of their activities on learners’ knowledge, strategies, skills, performance, and/or patient outcomes, and adds detail to the description of peer review (see ABIM4 in the Program Guide).

See our FAQs for more on the process used to ensure that the accredited CME activities registered for ABIM’s MOC program meet ABIM requirements and how the ACCME audits medical knowledge activities.
