Maintenance of Recognition

Beginning in 2012, ACCME is implementing a Maintenance of Recognition system, whereby State Medical Societies who are Recognized Accreditors by the ACCME will maintain their Recognition as Recognized Accreditors through demonstrating ongoing compliance with the ACCME’s Markers of Equivalency .  Equivalence is monitored by ACCME through real-time submission by the accreditor of the following documents and information that is a record of the accreditors’ performance-in-practice:

Beginning January 1st, 2012 for all ACCME Recognized Accreditors

1) The Accreditor will submit an overall compliance/decision grid within four weeks following each accreditation and progress report decision;

2) The Accreditor will update the contact information in the ACCME online system (or PARS) for each accredited provider in a timely fashion;

3) The Accreditor will update the ACCME online system (or PARS) to reflect an accredited provider’s new accreditation status and term within four weeks following any provider’s accreditation decision;

4) The ACCME will receive timely payment of accredited provider annual fees according to the schedule/deadlines set by the ACCME;

5) The ACCME will receive timely submission of complete and accurate annual program and activity data from its accredited providers according to the schedule/deadlines set by the ACCME;

Beginning January 1st, 2013 for all ACCME Recognized Accreditors and annually thereafter,

6) By a date specified by the ACCME, the Accreditor will submit to the ACCME:

a. A sample of provider files selected by the ACCME (for content see Marker 2.9, a-f.);

b. Its “Complaints and Inquiries Process” and its “Reconsideration and Appeals Procedures, if modified since last review by the ACCME;”

c. A narrative description of the access to training for staff and volunteers that it has provided to ensure individuals maintain knowledge and competence in a manner that supports equivalency.
