A hands on workshop about empathy and showing empathic care towards patients during ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy was provided to pathologists. Learners viewed a video demonstrating less than optimal communication approaches, then participated in role play where they delivered instructions to patients while making sure to let patients speak and voice their concerns prior to the procedure. Learners were coached with immediate feedback on their performance and coached to consider additional approaches that could help patients feel more comfortable (e.g. having a family member in the room).
