Criterion 27: The provider addresses factors beyond clinical care that affect the health of populations.
Overview of Criterion 27 from the ACCME Menu of Criteria for Accreditation with Commendation by Dr. Graham McMahon.
>>McMAHON: Our care environment extends beyond the walls of our operating rooms, or our ambulatory care clinic, or our patient care room in a hospital. Ultimately, to improve the health populations we have to address factors such as health behaviors, economic environment, the social environmental conditions that our patients live in, healthcare and payer systems, access to care, health disparities. And this criteria rewards those accredited providers who address these components in their educational programming and ultimately help commissions implement change that makes a difference to patients in their communities.
