On September 28, 2004, ACCME announced its adoption of the "2004 Updated ACCME Standards for Commercial SupportSM," effective for all CME activities after May 2005.

Contemporaneous with the release of the Updated Standards for Commercial Support, the ACCME released information intended as resources for implementing the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support.  The resources include background rationale, answers to questions about compliance, and "Identifying and Resolving Conflicts of Interest in Continuing Medical Education."

These resources have been prepared by the ACCME, but are not part of the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support. The ACCME will base its accreditation decisions on substantial compliance with all ACCME accreditation standards in effect, including the Standards for Commercial Support.
