Northeastern Med School CME Providers Discuss CME as Change Agent

Murray Kopelow, MD, President and CEO, ACCME; and Kate Regnier, MA, MBA, Deputy Chief Executive and COO, ACCME, participated at the 17th Annual Meeting of the Northeastern Consortium of Medical School CME Professionals, sponsored by New York Medical College. Dr. Kopelow and Ms. Regnier encouraged participants to view CME as a change agent and to become responsive leaders, supporting the health improvement priorities of various stakeholders, including medical schools, health care systems, care teams, communities, the government, and the public. They explained how information about physician practice informs the medical education continuum, including undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education. They described the joint accreditation process developed by the ACCME and its colleague accreditors, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in order to promote interprofessional education by and for the health care team. Dr. Kopelow and Ms. Regnier also facilitated a discussion about the “Proposal for Simplifying and Evolving the Accreditation Requirements and Process.”
