ACCME Participates in Duke Meeting Discussing CE Environment
Murray Kopelow, MD, President and CEO, ACCME, gave a presentation via conference call at Transforming Professional Medical Education, a conference organized by Duke Clinical Research Institute in December. Dr. Kopelow described the characteristics of accredited CME. He explained that accredited CME is of, by, and for the profession of medicine, and is independent of commercial interests. He provided an overview of the ACCME 2012 Annual Report, which showed that 82% of activities presented by ACCME-accredited providers did not receive commercial support. He discussed how accredited CME supports initiatives and how the Joint Accreditation program, created by the ACCME, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), supports interprofessional collaborative practice.
