ACCME Promotes IPE and Accreditor Collaboration

The ACCME participated in the following events during the past few months as part of its ongoing commitment to collaboration among accreditors and to advancing interprofessional education.

  • Executive leaders from Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ presented at the Alliance Quality Symposium, held by the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP) in September in Baltimore. Kate Regnier, MA, MBA, Deputy Chief Executive and COO, ACCME; Dimitra Travlos, PharmD, BCPS, Assistant Executive Director & Director, Continuing Pharmacy Education Provider Accreditation, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE); and Kathy Chappell, PhD, RN, Vice-President, Accreditation Program and Institute for Credentialing Research, and Director, Accreditation Program, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), explained how Joint Accreditation facilitates the integration of interprofessional education and quality improvement. They described how Joint Accreditation supports interprofessional collaborative practice and discussed the benefits of Joint Accreditation for continuing education providers. A collaboration of the ACCME, ACPE, and ANCC, Joint Accreditation offers organizations the opportunity to be simultaneously accredited to provide medicine, pharmacy, and nursing CE activities through a single, unified application process, fee structure, and set of accreditation standards.
  • Ms. Regnier participated in the 2014 Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Planning Meeting, held September 30–October 2 in Chicago. She discussed the ACCME’s strategic initiatives and offered the ACCME’s perspective on strategic opportunities for the ACPE. Ms. Regnier’s participation builds on the collaborative relationship between the ACCME and ACPE, which began more than 15 years ago.
