ACCME Provides Education and Support for Oman Accreditation System
The ACCME held a workshop at the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) in February, which brought together training and staff development officers from across Oman. Murray Kopelow, MD, President and CEO, ACCME, gave an overview of the ACCME Accreditation System, and explained the expectations of the Accreditation Criteria, from needs assessment to program evaluation and improvement. Using case examples, he discussed how the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle is integral to ACCME requirements. He described how the Standards for Commercial Support: Standards to Ensure Independence in CME Activities℠ provide a framework for obtaining and monitoring disclosure, identifying and resolving conflicts of interest, ensuring content validity, and preventing commercial bias.
Dr. Kopelow also met with the Oman Medical Specialty Board CME Committee and other healthcare leaders—the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman; and the Chairman and Executive President, OMSB.
In 2014, the OMSB was designated as an accreditor that is substantially equivalent to the ACCME. The OMSB is the first accreditation system outside North America to receive this status from the ACCME. Read more about this achievement in our news release.
Dr. Kopelow’s visit and ongoing engagement with OMSB and health leaders in Oman is in support of OMSB’s status as an accreditor that is substantially equivalent to the ACCME and in support of the ACCME’s commitment to foster collaboration in the global CME community.
